The global burden of drowning is estimated to range from over 400.000 to upwards of 1 million people every year; in everyday life, recreation and in disasters.


2011: 400 delegates from 50 countries. All committed to a world free from drowning.


The Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e.V. (DLRG) (German Lifeguard Association) is a relief organization for life saving in Germany. The DLRG is a non-profit, independent organization based on volunteers. It is the biggest life saving organision worldwide.

The World Conference on Drowning Prevention has additional objectives that include:

Strengthening recognition of ILS as the leader in the quest to reduce drowning in a lifesaving, public health, international development, water safety education, lifesaving sport and aquatic disaster management context.
